Though This Be Madness

Mandala Theatre Company

Though This Be Madness’ written by Avaes Mohammad, directed by Yasmin Sidhwa and choreographed by Bella Blythe in association with Oxford Playhouse. Though This Be Madness uses compelling physical theatre to present a moving and authentic exploration of what is happening to young people in relation to education, exclusion, gang grooming and too often, a pipeline to prison.

Mandala Theatre Company also worked in close partnership with members of the Excluded Lives Research Team based in the Department of Education, University of Oxford. In the coming months, the production will reach young people, the people who work with them, educationalists, and policy-makers through a series of streamed Knowledge Exchange events and a live and digital conference at The North Wall Arts Centre with TORCH | The Oxford Research Centre in the Humanities.

Gaia herself is crying out at the war that is being inflicted on the heart of the earth. A live outdoor show for Off Beat Festival Oxford.

After You Finish Laughing

RUDEcompany Collective

RUDEcompany was created as a third year undergraduate dance company to develop and perform the piece 'After You Finish Laughing'. A piece of work exploring the strange transition into adulthood and the surreal nostalgia of looking back on childhood years as a young adult. Performed by 8 dancers and 1 live musician. Bella co-directed and co-choreographed for the piece as well as acting as lighting designer.

The company has since become a collective of young artists continuing to explore and make work based on the same themes. to find out more about RUDEcompany Collective and the work we are doing visit the "RUDEcompany Collective" page.

Lavrak Circus

Bella has worked with Lavrak Circus through their stage management internship and as a performer in their upcoming "Toy Box Cabaret".

During the internship Bella was able to join Lavrak on their tour of 'Reach'. She was trained to use Qlab and used this software during the performances as their sound technician. She also had the opportunity to learn the components of working with young children and people with special needs and helped to make the shows more accessible to children with hearing impairment and sensory needs. This included working with sign language interpreters, experimenting with light, vibrations and non verbal communication.
